Those with a dual diagnosis face additional challenges when it comes to breaking a drug or alcohol addiction. Without the right support group in place, these individuals are also more prone to relapse.
What are Support Groups?
Support groups are part of an ongoing treatment program and are designed to help those with a dual diagnosis stay on track. There is a broad range of support groups available to meet every patient’s needs. Some support groups are provided in-house, but we also refer patients to organizations within their own communities when the situation warrants.
What Services Do Support Groups Provide?
In addition to being a general sounding board to give emotional support, these groups may also provide other services, such as:
- Life skills training
- Medication management
- Relapse prevention
- Teaching coping skills
Who Can Benefit from Support Groups?
Support groups can be particularly beneficial for those who do not have a strong support system in place once they leave our treatment facility. Many times, just knowing they are not alone in their struggles is enough to keep people on track. They may also benefit anyone who:
- Would like to air their feelings in a confidential, judgment-free setting
- Needs to better understand the behaviors that led to their addiction in the first place
- Wants to network and obtain referrals to other community-based organizations that could assist with other needs, such as food, clothing, shelter, etc.
