Addiction Recovery FAQ

Patients entering rehab often have lots of questions, which we are always happy to answer. Here at North Coast Recovery in Oregon, we pride ourselves on taking the time to listen and answer the questions of individuals throughout the Pacific Northwest and across the country.

How long will I be in rehab?

That will depend on a number of factors, such as the length of your addiction and how well you respond to treatment. Our patients are typically housed with us anywhere from 30 to 90 days.

Will detox be required?

Again, this will depend on the length and type of your addiction. During the admissions process, we will assess your condition and then determine whether or not detoxification would be appropriate.

Do I need a referral?

No. Although we do accept referrals from physicians and even the court system in some cases, we also admit patients who have a demonstrated need at the time of intake.

Will I be allowed to have visitors?

Yes, we have regular, weekly visitation periods where friends and family members may see you. All visitors must be preapproved by your counselor first.

Can I receive mail or phone calls?

Yes. During the admissions process, we will provide you with an address where friends and family members can send cards and letters, as well as a phone number where you may be reached in the event of an emergency. We also have phones available for you to make outgoing calls during personal time. You will need to use a calling card when making long-distance calls; otherwise, your loved ones must be willing to accept collect calls.

Can you accommodate special dietary needs?

Yes, we have menus available for diabetics and others with special dietary needs, and can also accommodate a wide range of food allergies.

Are electronic devices permitted?

No. We find that electronic devices, such as cell phones, tablets, and laptops, distract patients from focusing on their treatment. The center also cannot be responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen property, which is why we recommend patients leave valuable items, such as electronics at home.

Will I spend all of my time at your center?

We do provide weekly store runs so that you can pick up necessities or personal items. Our staff may occasionally provide trips to the community for special events or community service activities as well.

Are men and women treated separately?

Yes. Numerous studies have shown that men and women have different needs, and also suffer different side effects as a result of their addiction. Women, in particular, may feel very uncomfortable talking about certain situations in group settings where males are present. To ensure everyone has the best possible chance at recovery, we segregate our housing units and therapy programs according to gender.
